== Divrei Hayamim II (Book of 2 Chronicles), Chapter 10 11 ==
<named id="1"/><sup>1</sup> And when Rehoboam went was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to Shechem; for all fight against Israel were come , to Shechem bring the kingdom back to make him kingRehoboam.
<named id="2"/><sup>2</sup> And it But the word of HaShem came to pass, when Jeroboam Shemaiah the son man of Nebat heard of it-G-for he was in Egyptd, whither he had fled from the presence of king Solomon--that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt. saying:
<named id="3"/><sup>3</sup> And they sent and called him; and Jeroboam 'Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel came, in Judah and they spoke to RehoboamBenjamin, saying:
<named id="4"/><sup>4</sup> Thus saith HaShem: Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren; return every man to his house, for this thing is of Me.'Thy father made our yoke grievous; now therefore make thou So they hearkened unto the grievous service words of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighterHaShem, and we will serve theereturned from going against Jeroboam.'
<named id="5"/><sup>5</sup> And he said unto them: 'Come again unto me after three days.' And the people departedRehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah.
<named id="6"/><sup>6</sup> And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old menHe built even Beth-lehem, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet livedand Etam, and Tekoa, saying: 'What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?'
<named id="7"/><sup>7</sup> And they spoke unto him, saying: 'If thou be kind to this peopleand Beth-zur, and please themSoco, and speak good words to themAdullam, then they will be thy servants for ever.'
<named id="8"/><sup>8</sup> But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given himand Gath, and Mareshah, and took counsel with the young men that were grown up with himZiph, that stood before him.
<named id="9"/><sup>9</sup> And he said unto them: 'What counsel give yeand Adoraim, that we may return answer to this peopleand Lachish, who have spoken to meand Azekah, saying: Make the yoke that thy father did put upon us lighter?'
<named id="10"/><sup>10</sup> And the young men that were grown up with him spoke unto himand Zorah, saying: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the people that spoke unto theeand Aijalon, saying: Thy father made our yoke heavyand Hebron, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them: My little finger is thicker than my father's loinswhich are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.
<named id="11"/><sup>11</sup> And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yokehe fortified the strongholds, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whipsand put captains in them, but I will chastise you with scorpionsand store of victual, and oil and wine.'
<named id="12"/><sup>12</sup> And in every city he put shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin adhered to him.
<named id="12"/><sup>12</sup> So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king bade, saying: 'Come to me again the third day.'
<named id="13"/><sup>13</sup> And the king answered them roughly; priests and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of the old men, all their border.
<named id="14"/><sup>14</sup> For the Levites left their open land and their possession, and spoke came to Judah and Jerusalem; for Jeroboam and his sons cast them after off, that they should not execute the counsel of the young men, saying: priest'My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add theretos office unto HaShem; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.'
<named id="15"/><sup>15</sup> So and he appointed him priests for the king hearkened not unto high places, and for the people; satyrs, and for it was brought about of G-d, that HaShem might establish His word, the calves which He spoke by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebathe had made.
<named id="16"/><sup>16</sup> And when after them, out of all the tribes of Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the kingsuch as set their hearts to seek HaShem, saying: 'What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son G-d of Jesse; every man Israel, came to your tents, O Israel; now see Jerusalem to thine own housesacrifice unto HaShem, David.' So all Israel departed unto the G-d of their tentsfathers.
<named id="17"/><sup>17</sup> But as for So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the children son of Israel that dwelt Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the cities way of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over themDavid and Solomon.
<named id="18"/><sup>18</sup> Then king And Rehoboam sent Hadoramtook him a wife, who was over Mahalath the levy; daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the children daughter of Israel stoned him with stones, so that he died. And king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem. Eliab the son of Jesse;
<named id="19"/><sup>19</sup> So Israel rebelled against and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. <named id="20"/><sup>20</sup> And after her he took Maacah the house daughter of David Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. <named id="21"/><sup>21</sup> And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines--for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begot twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters. <named id="22"/><sup>22</sup> And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, even the prince among his brethren; for he was minded to make him king. <named id="23"/><sup>23</sup> And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto this dayevery fortified city; and he gave them victual in abundance. And he sought for them many wives.
