CHAPTER THREE

The IDEA OF GOD IN ISRAEL

THE GOD UNIVERSAL

I.

The Creator of the Bible.

The God of Israel, which is unique and in its essence, is a universal God. The natural consequence of monotheistic dogma deserves to be studied more carefully in the manifestations of the Jewish faith in God the Creator, Providence, Legislator, Revealer.

The idea of creation is already evidence of the universal belief in God, as was rightly observed by an author who is not suspected of partiality for Judaism: "If, in the Old Testament, God taught by legislators and preached by the prophets we first appears as the national god of the Hebrew people, it is nevertheless true that, proclaimed creator of the universe, it is even recognized as the God of all nations. This is truly messianic side of the Old Testament is unquestionably one of the book of all times and all places "[1] We do not know if saying that the God of Moses and the prophets appears first as a national God means to allude to the historical development of monotheism to Israel if it is simply meant to indicate that this aspect of Deity is one that is dominant in the Jewish faith, it is no less certain [2] that the Bible recognizes that God's universal character of the Creator, when it uses the expressions of God's Heaven and Earth, Lord, possessor of heaven and literally purchaser of the land, and that of God in the world "especially in circumstances where the intention of proselytizing is obvious. If it is the sovereign Creator, is to him that had to turn the worship of primitive man. When is the book of Genesis He commend up the appearance of polytheism? The rabbis claim that it is the time of Enosh. He would then elapsed since the establishment of a long period of time during which the God of Israel was not only of law but of fact, the God of all mankind. The literal meaning of the passage on [4] is a long way to justify this interpretation, however, and whether it should be understood otherwise, it is certainly necessary to further delay the start of polytheism. It comes because of various sins recalibrated in these times, but never that of idolatry. The culprits weaknesses Bene Elohim, moral corruption, violence, the pride that drove men to oppose the designs of the Most High, as evidenced by the history of the construction of the tower, these are the subjects of the criticisms address the Bible to people, but it is not said a word about the worship of false gods. The universal empire of God the Creator would have it also, according to the biblical witness, an extremely short duration, it would be enough to repel even victo- [5]
