CHAPTER TWO

THE TWO ASPECTS OF THE UNIVERSAL LAW
LEGAL STATUS OF NOACHIDE

I.

The good pagan.

The law recognizes the bassinet legal presence in Palestine of foreigners who are not subject to the Mosaic religion. These are the "proselytes of the gate " which are fellow citizens without. Not only are they free of dietary prohibitions of the law, but the Jew who can not eat the flesh of animals that have not been ritually slaughtered them is invited to donate rather than sell at a mere stranger, and the Talmud [1] expressly stated. This rule is doubly valuable either for charity that inspires, or by formal recognition that it contains a religious state, legal point of view of Jewish religion, which is not the Mosaic .

The Mosaic law still faces a different kind of Noachide it is the slave of one or the other sex. The slave woman could be married to the Hebrew slave, he was a priest [2]. These slaves were they submitted to Mosaic? The Pentateuch is silent on an issue as important, there is no reason to believe. This assumption is rather excluded by the condition that the law requires the slave to be circumcised if he wants to eat the paschal lamb, with its [3] masters. This means that there is not obligated by state. Tradition is also formal in this regard. It teaches that when one buys a slave Israelites, it must offer him for twelve months circumcision. If the slave accepts and then subjected to the prescribed ablution or baptism, it is considered a half-Jewish duty to do, and the wife, all the negative part of the law. If shelter is not an Israelite, indeed, keep it as a slave, but he must yield to a kind master from whom he enjoys full freedom. But that's not all: if the slave before joining the Israelites had imposed the condition of not being circumcised, could be kept indefinitely by the Israelite without any outward sign of Judaism, the only Noachism is all that is required of him and even the obligation, according to some authors, does she only wanted the Canaanites who continue to live in the Holy Land.

The true spirit of Judaism is evident when we see that there proclaim among the Gentiles, just men, loved by God, whose merits are prosperity of nations. Not only Job that we doctors cite just as par excellence. The Bible provides many other examples. Here is a remarkable passage from Isaiah in which he is undoubtedly good pagans like the inhabitant of the land of Uz. "That son of a stranger, who joined the Lord does not say: The Lord separated me from his own people! .. The son of a stranger who has joined with the LORD to serve him, to love the name of the Lord, to be the number of his servants, all who observe the Sabbath did not desecrate and who persevere in My covenant I will bring to my holy mountain and make them joyful in My house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar, for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples [4] ". The pagan whose question here is this man who converted to Judaism entirely? The name of son of a stranger given to it, even after his conversion, can not imagine. The language that makes him take the assumption no less unlikely. Would he, after his affiliation with Judaism Jew who would like his brothers, that the LORD separated from his people? In addition, the promise that made him the prophet to be introduced in the Temple of Jerusalem would [5] no reason to be, if nothing more distinguished now the Jewish birth . The final sentence: "For my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples [6] "proves that it is indeed enough of other nations and all races equally. The only words of this passage would indicate that the prophet hears aliens fully converted to Judaism are the words related to observing the Sabbath, but this objection should be examined more closely.
