English translation
Moshe received the Torah at Sinai and transmitted it to Yehoshua; Yehoshua to the Elders; the Elders to the Prophets; and the Prophets transmitted it to the Men of the Great Assembly.
Editorial note
Pirkei Avos opens with the transmission of Torah from one generation to the next. That is the guiding principle of this library: we are a link in the chain, not a new starting point. A critical edition would identify the Hebrew textual witness, note meaningful variants, and distinguish the received text from the editor’s interpretation. This is an illustrative rendering, not a manuscript collation.
